The Modbury Messenger is a monthly community magazine and printed newsletter for the town of Modbury, Devon, providing local news, views, and events information. It is operated as a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC), with 1,000 copies distributed to local homes and businesses, alongside an online version.

Modbury Messenger CIC is a Community Interest Company and as such is registered by the Registrar of Companies for England & Wales, Northern Ireland or Scotland. 

A Community Interest Company is a special type of not-for-profit limited company which exists to benefit the community. 

The purpose of Modbury Messenger CIC is to disseminate information about events, notices and articles of interest to the people of Modbury and it does this by publishing the Modbury Messenger, a printed newsletter, every month with 1000 copies delivered to homes and businesses within the Parish of Modbury.

Advertisers are charged a fee for advertising in the Modbury Messenger and this covers the cost of producing the Modbury Messenger. The Board of Directors, Company Secretary, Editor, Proofreaders and Distributors are all volunteers.

Editorial Guidelines

Guidelines for publishing articles in the Modbury Messenger

  1. No illegal content
  2. No abusive, racist or libellous comments
  3. Any interests to be declared in the article, or below name e.g. company affiliation, proximity to sites
  4. To be of local interest
  5. Articles may be precised, edited or abbreviated by the editorial committee.
  6. Layout, positioning, titles, black/white or colour, spelling and grammar is chosen by the editor
  7. Articles submitted may not be printed
  8. The Editorial Board’s decision is final
  9. The person submitting the article must ensure that permission has been obtained from the copyright owners of images/text to print the image/text in the Modbury Messenger, including the online version of the Modbury. Any fines incurred by the Modbury Messenger for breach of copywriter will be the responsibility of the author of the article.
